General Description
Absinthium is a herbaceous perennial plant with fibrous roots and a greenish overall colour. The plant is commonly known as Wormwood or Grand Wormwood and has a herbaceous flavour with some bitterness. – Please see Additional Information about toxicity and consumption guidelines.
Use Cases
Grand wormwood has been and is used in the production of absinthe, its namesake and is also used when flavouring other spirits or wine. Some of these include Bitters, bask, vermouth and pelinkovac.
In the Middle Ages Wormwood was used to spice mead and in Morocco it is used with tea called Sheeba.
Wormwood was also a common ingredient used in beer before the use of or as an alternative to hops.
Additional information (If applicable)
Wormwood is considered moderately poisonous and although it has traditionally been used to help cure ailments and such, caution is advised when using wormwood for any consumption purpose. Wormwood toxicity is rare however as only one case has been recorded at the time of writing.
§ Storage
Keep packet sealed/closed tightly after opening, keep in a cool, dry place and away from pests.
§ Shelf life
These are dried ingredients and should not spoil in any reasonable time frame provided storage conditions are met, however some flavour and viability may be lost over long periods (Several months) of storage.
