General Description

 

Frankincense (also known as olibanum) is an aromatic resin used in incense and perfumes, it is obtained from the torchwood family of trees, Boswellia. Frankincense was and used in a variety of different ways for different purposes by a variety of cultures and religions. Frankincense consists of aromas made up of terpenic incense, peppery, spicy and woody pine aromas. Flavour wise Frankincense has a woody, peppery, citrus and resinous flavour profile.

 

 

Use Cases

 

In the liquor industry Frankincense is used to make Olimyrum commercially, which is a brand of Frankincense liqueur which is essentially marketed as a health tonic. Frankincense can be used at home to flavour a variety of liquor including gin and spiced rum.

 

Frankincense was widely used in the embalming process by Egyptians to cleanse body cavities. Frankincense is still widely used in Abrahamic religions to cleanse houses of evil energy and it is used in traditional Chinese medicines due to its antibacterial properties.

§                     Storage

Keep packet sealed/closed tightly after opening, keep in a cool, dry place and away from pests.

§                     Shelf life

These are dried ingredients and should not spoil in any reasonable time frame provided storage conditions are met, however some flavour and viability may be lost over long periods (Several months) of storage.
