General Description
A very well known spice, Coriandrum Sativum – or just coriander is an annual herb widely used for culinary applications. Although the whole plant is edible, the most commonly used parts of the coriander plant are the leaves (Known either as coriander leaves or cilantro). Coriander is most commonly perceived as having a very distinct tart, lemon/lime taste with some spiciness.
Use Cases
In liquor coriander seed is most often used either to flavour spicy gins or for use in Belgian witbier styles to add a very distinct spiciness and citrus flavour along with orange peel.
Coriander seed is also very widely used in the culinary world, mostly as a seasoning either for meats or salads and also as an addition into certain flavourful dishes. Of course here in South Africa one of the more common things seasoned with coriander is biltong as it compliments the flavour of meat very well.
Additional information (If applicable)
Coriander seeds and Grains of Paradise are related and share a relatively similar flavour profile, thus they can be used as replacements for one another if necessary.
