General Description:
Dextrose Monohydrate, also called Priming Sugar, Brewing Sugar or Corn Sugar is a basic, fine, neutral sugar that is commonly used both as a neutral base for sugar wash fermentation and as a neutral sugar for carbonation.
Yeast will consume this sugar and create both alcohol and CO2, in the case of fermentation, alcohol levels will rise significantly in relation whilst during carbonation these levels will be fairly negligible due to the low amount of sugar added.
Quantity:
1kg
Usage Instructions for Carbonation:
Weight out between 7 – 9g of priming sugar per litre of beer/fermented liquid after fermentation. Mix this weighed out sugar with a little bit of hot water (just enough to dissolve it) and then add it to a separate “bottling bucket”.
Transfer your beer from your main fermenter to your bottling bucket, taking care to avoid splashing as much as possible. This transfer should mix the dextrose solution with the beer/ fermented liquid sufficiently, however you can do some additional mixing after the transfer.
Finally, once mixed, simply fill the bottles, cap them and leave them for two weeks to fully carbonate.
Disclaimer:
You may need to use a slightly higher ratio of dextrose to liquid when using PET bottles as these tend to expand when pressurized.
Please note that your initial fermentation should be COMPLETELY finished before adding dextrose and bottling, this is to avoid excessive CO2 levels in the beer/fermented liquid that may cause the bottle to pop.
Use your hydrometer readings to determine whether or not the fermentation has ceased.
