Pilsner malt is a form of Malted Barley that is most commonly used as a Base Malt. Base Malts make up most of your overall grain bill in a recipe, making up the bulk of your fermentable sugars. Most recipes may contain around 75% or more Base Malt whilst the rest is comprised out of different specialty malts.
Pilsner malt is mostly used to produce the fermentable sugar for the beer, however when isolated it will produce a very pale, washed out yellow coloured product with neutral, barely malty characteristics and very little if any residual malt sweetness.
Used primarily as a base in a variety of Lager and Pilsner styles with low to medium body. Can be used as a base for a Whiskey mash.
