• Hyssop (100g)

General Description

Hyssop is a Shrub that is part of the mint family and commonly grows in Southern Europe, the Middle East and the area surrounding the Caspian Sea. Hyssop’s taste is described to be a lot like mint, however it does also have more floral character and a pleasant bitterness. Its aromatic character can also be described to be somewhat like lavender as it invokes spring meadows.

Use Cases

Hyssop can be used to flavour herbal liqueurs due to its herbal, minty character. Hyssop is also a part of the formulation of Chartreuse, a key ingredient in absinthe where it is responsible for the green colour.

Hyssop is commonly used in cooking, especially in Za’atar, which is a famous Middle Eastern herbal mixture that can include dried Hyssop leaves.

Hyssop has traditionally been used in herbal medicine for centuries due to its supposed soothing, expectorant couch suppressing properties. It has also been used to treat a sore throat.
